veSpace Employees Smash 3 Peaks Challenge Target Raising £1,365 for Meeting Needs

Two of our employees set themselves a £500 target to concur the 3 Peaks and raise funds for their chosen charity – Meeting Needs. Despite adverse weather conditions and injuries, the support shown to them helped them smash this target and raise £1,120.

Meeting Needs is a registered charity founded by leading figures in the UK conference and events industry. The objective of Meeting Needs is to raise funds for worthy causes championed by event professionals relevant to the events industry. They are proud of the way that they have united the Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Events industry behind a common cause.

After months of training, Executive Assistant, Natalie Morhen, and Account Manager, Marlene Scott, braced the different elements that each of the three mountains confronted them with and completed the 3 Peaks over the May Bank Holiday weekend. With snow at the top of Ben Nevis, blistering torrential rain at Scafell Pike and rain and fog at Snowdon, this wasn’t going to stop the dynamic duo.

Natalie talks about the challenges faced over the weekend. “We completely underestimated the weather conditions. Even leading up to the day of the first mountain, checking the weather we didn’t think we’d face such diverse conditions, that no matter how much training we had done would prepare us for. So much so, it caused injury to my knee on the first day. We weren’t going to let this stop us though, and I’m so proud of us both for battling through.”

When asked why they chose Meeting Needs, Marlene commented. “We wanted to support a charity that’s industry related, and we know that Meeting Needs do some amazing projects and support a wide-range of charities themselves. We set ourselves an original target of £500 and we’re absolutely thrilled to have smashed this, as to date we’re at £1,365. The support from our families, friends, colleagues and industry peers was amazing, and across the weekend, seeing the new donations come through certainly spurred us on to complete the challenge.”

Lene Corgan, Vice Chair of Meeting Needs appreciates the support shown. “We’re delighted by the support of both Natalie and Marlene in helping to raise the profile of Meeting Needs and achieve such a fantastic amount of fundraising for the charity. This money will go towards a great cause, and it’s initiatives like this that help us deliver different projects across the UK and worldwide.”

Anita Lowe, CEO of veSpace is proud of the team. “We have a wellness committee here at veSpace, and we regularly organise internal events to support the wellbeing of our employees. It’s not only wellness we look at, but our support to charities. As a business, we sponsored Natalie and Marlene by paying the £600 entry fee for the challenge, this allowed for all additional fundraising to go straight to Meeting Needs.”
