Natalie Morhen, Senior EA to CEO, Anita Lowe, and HR Manager, completed her CIPD Level 5 People Management qualification. We are delighted to celebrate this achievement as team development is a priority of ours.
Natalie is responsible for our HR Administration and had years of experience in the department, but no formal qualifications. Therefore, Natalie reached out to Anita to request support in studying towards a CIPD to strengthen our HR & Administration department.
Between balancing a 30-hour working week and a family with young children, Natalie completed the 18-month course in a staggering 12 months. She studied in her own time as the course was online, so she had more flexibility, which suited her busy lifestyle. However, it did come with challenges. Being fully online, Natalie did not have a mentor or personal guidance, which proved difficult when it came to Harvard referencing and citing research, something Natalie had no experience of.
She completed seven assessments across the course, with eight weeks spent on each. She completed subjects including Professional Behaviours and valuing people, Organisational performance and culture in Practice, Evidence Based Practice, Employment relationship management, Talent Management and workforce planning, Reward for performance and contribution, and Employment Law.
Natalie reflects on her qualification. “I am delighted to have completed my Level 5 CIPD in People Management. The qualification is the equivalent of a Foundation Level degree, which has opened so many doors for me in HR. I can now study to become Chartered, which I would be interested in doing. However, I would prefer to do this face-to-face to have access to more mentorship and guidance as the course is much more strategic than the Level 5.”
Anita adds, “The team at veSpace could not be prouder of Natalie for her fantastic achievement. I am delighted Natalie came to me to ask to do this course, as team development and continuous learning is something we take very seriously at veSpace. Encouraging the team to push themselves to develop their skills and knowledge is a priority for the senior team, and when individuals come to us to ask to do this, we are delighted to support them.”
We are proud of our learning and development programmes. We have an Emerging Talent programme where individuals from across the business spend time in each department to learn the processes of each area. They also learn leadership and management skills, giving them the knowledge to progress into leadership roles within their teams.
We also regularly offer placement opportunities to university students to allow them to gain experience in the event industry. This also allows our team to take on mentoring roles with students, teaching them how each department works and guiding them through our processes.
