Mental Health Awareness Week – Anxiety

Spreading Awareness

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is focused on Anxiety. Right now, is a great opportunity to start talking about how you feel. After all ‘a problem shared, is a problem halved.’ Anxiety is a normal emotion in us all, but sometimes it can get out of control and become a mental health problem. According to a study published in 2022, over 8 million people in the UK are experiencing an anxiety disorder (Mental Health UK).

Lots of things can lead to feelings of anxiety, including exam pressures, relationships, starting a new job (or losing one) or other big life events. We can also get anxious when it comes to financial worries and not being able to meet our basic needs, like heating our home or buying food. But anxiety can be made easier to manage.

Focusing on anxiety for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week will increase people’s awareness and understanding of anxiety by providing information on the things that can help prevent it from developing into a bigger problem. So, reach out to family and friends that you can trust or speak to a colleague or neighbour.

“You’ve got this.”
