Spotlight on Washington D.C.

Laura Law, Head of Global Account Management, recently visited Washington D.C. and shares with us her memorable experience in the US capital.

Washington, D.C. – a city known for its power, politics, and history. However, for many, it may not be the first choice for an incentive trip. Yet, after a whirlwind experience in the nation’s capital, I can confidently say it’s a hidden gem waiting to be explored.

My recent trip to Washington was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I landed at Dulles Airport after a comfortable seven-hour flight with Virgin, I began to get excited.

Day One – Site Inspections

After landing, we were transferred to Capitol Hill for a tour of the Halls of Power with Lindon Events. We then had a site inspection of the Watergate Hotel (where the political controversy with Richard Nixon famously took place, which resulted in his resignation and where there is a bedroom dedicated to the scandal) and Hotel Washington, before a fantastic suite experience at the Washington Nationals vs Houston Astros game at Nationals Ballpark. We stayed at Hotel Washington with a roof top terrace that overlooks some of the incredible landmarks including the Washington Monument and the White House.

Day Two – Top Secret Day

The next day we did the National Mall Excursion, with half of us on bikes. We then had a tour of the International Spy Museum with Access DMC before going on a Georgetown Espionage Tour – a day 007 would be proud of!

We stayed at the Riggs Hotel for the next two nights, where we also had lunch on day one – best French Soup I’ve ever had!

Day Three – Museum Hopping

Our final day was all about museums. We did some museum hopping with Hello! DC then headed to National Museum of African American History and Culture and the National Portrait Gallery. To end the day, and the trip, we had a champagne farewell at the Waldorf Astoria.

Laura’s Highlights

I had the privilege of being hosted by Destination DC, a team whose expertise in showcasing the city is truly commendable. Accompanied by Natalie Beagle from Ablemaxx, our UK representative host, and working closely with Chris Bason, our itinerary was carefully created to ensure we experienced the best of what Washington had to offer.

Special mention must be made of Kathy from All About Flights, whose sponsorship made our journey seamless. Her knowledge of air travel is unparalleled, and her generosity made this trip possible.

Our days were filled to the brim with activities, keeping us busy the whole trip. But, it wasn’t just the tourist activities that left an impression. The energy of the city and the warmth of the locals truly made the trip special for me.

Of course, a highlight of my trip was my return back to the UK I was met with a warm welcome from Ruben. I think I missed him more than he missed me!

Looking back on my time in Washington D.C., I feel grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself the vibrant city. And with 2026 marking the 250th birthday of the USA, there’s never been a better time to visit. The preparations for this milestone are already underway, promising a year filled with excitement and celebration.

Overall, Washington, D.C. exceeded all my expectations. It’s a city brimming with possibility, offering something for everyone. So, next time you’re planning an incentive trip, consider this dynamic destination. As for me, I’m proud to say I’ve become the resident expert, eager to share my newfound love for Washington!
